Cherokee Nation Scholars Program
~GUIDELINES~
Purpose:
The purpose of the Cherokee Nation Scholars Program is to increase the percentage of Cherokee high school graduates who are better prepared to enter college. Scholars are high school students who have completed the Scholars Course of Study, a specific sequence of academic courses in math, science, language arts and social studies, must apply by July 31, following High School graduation.
Eligibility | | Categories of Recognition |
- Must be a citizen of the Cherokee Nation
- Must be a resident of the fourteen-county jurisdictional area (Three Categories of recognition based on residency)
- Must be a high school student. (Public, Private or Home School)
- Must complete the Scholars Course of Study
- Must submit official transcript(s) with application
- Must pass each course with a minimum of a 2.5 GPA, and graduate from high school.
- Must apply by July 31, following High School graduation

- Residing within the 14-county Cherokee Nation jurisdictional area
- Named Cherokee Nation Scholar and Oklahoma Scholar, t-shirt, medallion, scholarship
- Residing in Oklahoma
- Named Cherokee Nation Scholar and Oklahoma Scholar, t-shirt and medallion
- Residing outside Oklahoma
- Named Cherokee Nation Scholar, t-shirt and medallion

Benefits of Being a Scholar
Students graduating as a Scholar are better prepared for college and will be a stronger candidate for certain
types of financial aid and scholarships. Scholars will develop sound decision making and critical thinking
skills.
